Impact Family Services provides supports to OOHC and DCJ. Our mission is to inspire change in how we support and engage with children and young people; their foster carers, family and support team in out-of-home care.
We have experienced Step by Step assessors available to complete foster carer assessments for general foster carers and kinship carers.
Foster care assessments are completed promptly so that qualified and suitable applicants can start caring for children, providing them a safe home.
At Impact Family Services, we recognise that even the most experienced foster carers may encounter challenges where they need support for themselves and their families.
Given the complexities of child protection and out-of-home care, we understand that case managers often have demanding caseloads and may not have the capacity to provide immediate assistance during crises.
We offer vital support to foster carers during difficult times by equipping them with the necessary skills and strategies. We aim to reduce ongoing crises and facilitate more stable placements for children.
We provide personalised one-on-one support, coaching, and mentoring directly in the homes of foster carers, ensuring they receive the assistance they need to navigate challenging situations effectively.
We understand the challenge: complex trauma can make it hard for kids to trust and engage in therapy. At Impact Family Services, we prioritise creating a safe environment and building trust through meaningful activities with their therapist. We collaborate with both carers and children to address concerns and behaviours together.
The Family Finding model, developed by Kevin A. Campbell, helps locate and engage relatives of children in out-of-home care. Our aim is to connect each child with a family, providing them with the lifelong connections only family can offer.
We collaborate with your agency and case managers to identify suitable family members who can care for the child. We also explore other roles family members can play to support the child's well-being.
Children's sense of identity and belonging is deeply tied to their language, beliefs, values, practices, and ancestral stories. Fostering this connection requires offering genuine opportunities for them to engage with activities and knowledge that celebrate their culture.
At Impact Family Services, we bridge cultural gaps by supporting case managers and foster carers in understanding diverse cultures, values, and traditions. We develop strong comprehensive cultural plans for children in care, involving their families in passing down stories, values, customs, traditions, and beliefs.
A Maori proverb explains: "He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata." What is the most important thing in the world? It is the people, it is the people, it is the people.
